Setup a Custom Volunteer Code
How to set up a custom volunteer code in version 6.0.
- Open File | Field Lists | Volunteer Fields.
- Scroll to Code Field 1 (about line 59) or another available Code Field.
- Type a name in the Displayed Name field, something like Branch Preference.
- Check the box in the Use? column.
- Click the Edit List button at the bottom.
- Add the branch names.
- Close. Close Volunteer Fields.
To select a Branch Preference for a prospective volunteer:
- Open Volunteers | Profile.
- Find the Volunteer.
- Click the Edit Volunteer button.
- Scroll to the Branch Preference field.
- Select the choice by highlighting it.
- OK.
- On the volunteer’s Profile you will see the selected choice.

Code Fields work great if you need to select a single choice from a list.
To label a field, e.g., Branch Preference, open Reference Codes in the menus at the top.
- Reference Codes | Assign Field Names.
- In the Volunteer Field Names tab, find an unused code field.
- Type Branch Preference over the Code Field # in the Display Name column.
- Check the box in the Show? Column.
- If desired, set the Order number to push the code up or down on the Volunteer Codes tab.
- OK.
Now to add values, go back to Reference Codes in the menus at the top.
- Reference Codes | Volunteer Codes | User-Defined Codes | Branch Preference.
- Click Add.
- Type one branch name.
- OK.
- Repeat for other branch names.
If you had the Volunteers section open when you created the custom code you will need to close Volunteers and reopen it to see your addition. Then on the Codes tab in Volunteers click Edit to set a value for Branch Preference.
To select a Branch Preference for a prospective volunteer:
- Open Volunteers.
- Find the Volunteer.
- Click the Codes tab.
- Click the Edit button.
- Click on the Branch Preference field.
- Select the choice by highlighting it.
- OK.
- On the volunteer’s Codes tab you will see the selected choice.
